The Ultimo Hotel – Sydney

2nd January 2018

During our time in Sydney, Antonia from mochni.com and I had the opportunity to stay at the world’s first astrology hotel – The Ultimo.

As soon as you walk into the reception area, you immediately see all of the zodiac signs framed behind the friendly and helpful front desk staff. There is also a full Italian coffee/café set up where you can get barista made coffee basically all day! The coffee is sourced from a local Sydney roaster and if you’re not a coffee drinker, you can choose teas which have been specifically chosen for your star sign!

When we checked in, we received our keys and zodiac-specific city recommendations and “do not disturb” signs. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, especially when we initially couldn’t get the WiFi to work; they went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. The housekeeping staff were also very accommodating to our still relatively jetlagged sleeping pattern.

The room was very clean and modern, with a touch of minimalist, Scandinavian-chic (click through the photos above). The heritage listed building has been beautifully renovated in a way that maintains the historic charm while adding a touch of modernity. Every room is unique so our photos tell some of the story, but not all of it! The renovation was completed in February 2017, so all of the furnishing are basically brand new! The beds were very comfortable, and the linens and towels clean and fresh. The linen company they work with for all of the bedding and towels uses eco-friendly technologies (yay!). Green Services (cleaning etc) are also offered for all of the rooms.

Though we usually travel with our own basic toiletries, those provided by the hotel were far better than usual. The brand - METIS - is made in Australia and are free from mineral oil, parabens, and not tested on animals. Much cleaner than most products supplied by hotels. Also to note – amazing water pressure for those of us with long hair and need a reasonable shower to wash our hair!

Overall the hotel was very quiet considering its very central location. An extra pane of glass has been installed to effectively keep most ambient street noise out. We very rarely heard any guests in neighbouring rooms, we had a couple of mornings of a screaming and crying mother and child, but I think we were just unlucky. For the most part, from around 10pm to 8am, it was nice and quiet.

Location-wise, the Ultimo was perfect for us. A short walk to the central train station made it easy to access the airport, as well as the major train and bus routes so we could explore the rest of the sprawling city of Sydney. For those who don’t mind walking a bit, you can also easily walk to the key “tourist” spots such as Darling Harbour, the Rocks, the Queen Victoria Building, and Circular Quay (usually 1-2km walk). The hotel is located right in the heart of the China-Town district so there is a plethora of different cuisines in the form of restaurants, cafes, and tiny kiosks to choose from. There is also a Woolworths supermarket two minutes-walk away, and the Market City shopping centre across the road which houses a food court along with the standard high-street stores.

The hotel also offers a range of astrology services including Star Charts leading local astrologers. Unfortunately we did not have time to take advantage of this during our time in Sydney.

Long story short; the Ultimo is a “no-frills” yet very chic hotel that had everything we needed, all housed in a beautifully renovated, historic building right in the centre of Sydney. We highly recommend you check it out on your next trip to the fabulous city of Sydney!

Welcome!

Hi! I'm Rachael - an Aussie living in Germany who's a little bit obsessed with green beauty, taking photos, and trying to lessen her impact on the world.

  • #traveltip - shampoo and conditioner bars no more bottles leaking in your bag and doesn’t take up precious liquid allowance when you only have hand luggage! I purchased this @naturalwisdomspa Shampoo bar from @genuineselection and chopped it up into a couple of smaller pieces, I feel like the product lasted longer as well somehow! As you can see, still just as bubbly as liquid shampoo (if that’s what you want) so you don’t need to compromise while on holiday ☺️ #solidshampoo #shampoobar #plasticfree
  • Take me back to the beach ☀️ My husband and I really enjoyed our time at @knossosbeach - fabulous beach, amazing service, great food, relaxing atmosphere - we couldn’t ask for anything more! I was very happy to discover that the hotel had taken upon itself to work towards and be awarded two voluntary sustainable certifications: the Blue Flag and Green Key. @blueflag_global is awarded for their beautiful beach. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained. Look for beaches with this flag for clean,
  • Some sad but also happy news - @heartofgold.alchemy has decided to officially close. I have found some fabulous products amongst her creations (to be honest, there wasn’t a product that I didn’t love and find effective) so I am sad to see this brand fade into history, however I am just as excited to see the journey that Ally takes us on next. I truly believe there is no point in working somewhere you have fallen out of love with - you really only live once. Follow what your heart tells you. When you are happy where you are, you’ll
  • Not beauty related but wanted to get back on insta and couldn’t resist posting this delicious oat chai latte and vegan blueberry pancakes I enjoyed today at @sunnysideup.ffm - not sponsored, not gifted, just wanted brunch today and found these guys! Can only recommend! ☕️ #veganpancakes #ffm
  • #texturetuesday well travelled and it was not a warm day when I filmed this, but she melts on contact. NADI is a beautiful, herbal balsam which is packed with incredible ingredients that all work in harmony to target a wide range of skin concerns. It’s like wrapping your face in a wonderful herbal hug. @fifty7kind’s website is absolutely bursting with product and ingredient info, so I really recommend taking a minute or two to check it out. I do @fifty7kind’s products absolutely no justice by just copying and pasting the magic of NADIs story. AD/GIFTED by @theboxwalla #skincare #fifty7kind

  • 2020 was pretty sh1t in a lot of ways, but in other ways it was pretty awesome I got to marry the love of my life - my best friend, we moved cities together (again), I started a new job with new colleagues and made new friends, I learned to work in new ways and in new environments. But I also didn’t get to see my family, celebrated without them, lost a good friend, and had to watch other struggle from afar with only my distant support. I can only hope for a smoother road through 2021 for all of
  • ✨ ✨ [ad•gifted] @theboxwalla October Beauty Box @naturallogic - I called this delicious alien jelly in my stories a while back and I still can think of a better description I don’t think I’ve ever had a product like it, it’s thick but runny, a bit slimy but not in an “ew” way, you can’t just dollop it on your face and then smooth it around when you feel like it - it will run down your cheeks and drip all over your bathrobe. It’s full of fabulous ingredients such as aloe, niacinamide, burdock root, and activated charcoal that cleanse,
  • I filmed this the other day but am finally uploading it I’ve used this @lovinahskincare oil cleanser a few times since and am falling deeper and deeper in love. The scent is so amazing I just want to drink a whole glass of it (sorry, but it’s not tasty, so I don’t recommend it lol). I haven’t tried it to remove makeup yet since I don’t leave the house too much due to fun times, but will update you once I do! The scent is so fabulous while you’re cleaning your face but doesn’t leave any lasting fragrance once you
